The suite on the second floor is a well-kept secret at this value hotel, and it worked well for our family visiting from overseas. It has a kitchenette and one bedroom, plus a sofa and a separate bed in the main hall. I first booked an ordinary room last year, then upgraded to the suite when I needed to be near the University while dropping off my daughter. I was returning to the US after many years and reluctant to drive, so the location was ideal, within walking distance of the University and downtown. You can use Uber to get to SFO airport or around Davis. I came back this year for nine nights. The staff are friendly, and Oliver at the main desk is always helpful.

The bathroom and towels weren’t very clean. On top of that, I didn’t feel comfortable for the rest of the night after a check-in mix-up: while I was out, people were let into my room even though I’d already unpacked my belongings. When I got back, staff were intense, telling me to return to the office and asking why my things were in the room. I had to show my ID again to confirm I’d checked in about an hour earlier. Then they just sent me on my way.

For the high price, I expected more. Some workers don’t know how to hand out room keys, and the Wi-Fi fails every other day. Even when it works, it cuts out every five minutes, so I had to rely on my phone’s hotspot the whole time. The blankets are extremely thin. Outlet placement seems unplanned: in my room, the nearest one to the desk was behind a heavy marble countertop. Some countertops also have random holes drilled into them.

A very restful, quiet stay, even in downtown Davis and within walking distance of wonderful restaurants. We found the hotel clean, convenient, friendly, accommodating, and good value, especially for visiting animals at the university hospital. The complimentary breakfast was excellent, with pastries, waffles, fresh fruit, and yogurt. We really enjoyed our stay.
