Hampton Inn Debary/Deltona

After a night on the road, we stopped here intending to book two rooms for my family. I went inside with my younger children to use the restroom, then returned to the car to get things sorted. Before we'd secured the rooms, two of my children were told to leave because the hotel didn't let the public use its restroom. They were sent down the road to a dirty gas station bathroom, and nobody even asked whether we were staying there. As a mother, I was furious and worried about their safety, especially with trafficking on the rise. We'd stayed here before, and I had expected our family to be safe. I told the receptionist that, as someone with grandchildren, she should understand wanting to protect children. She focused only on the “no public restrooms” sign and didn't listen when I said we planned to stay. She never asked any questions, then made a snide, laughing remark telling me to “have a good day.” She showed no concern for how her behavior affected guests. I called the other families traveling with us, and we all looked elsewhere for comfortable, safe rooms. It was upsetting and frustrating. Do better, and treat people like human beings. There were a Burger King, an IHOP, and a gas station just steps from the hotel, which made things really convenient. The coffee was good too, and the breakfast bar had the best waffles ever. What stood out most was the service. Everyone I spoke with was friendly and helpful, and I can't say enough good things about them. I took off a star for the room because I wanted better lighting, though maybe that's just me getting older. I turned on every light so I could see. I'll stay there again.

The front desk staff were hospitable, and the hotel was nice enough, but it felt like it lacked polish. Both rooms had showers that drained very slowly, and the outlets wouldn't hold a plug. One room didn't have a microwave, which I understood to be a standard amenity. The ice machine on my floor wasn't working, and there was no out-of-order sign. Some or all of this might have been fixable, but I don't like having to coordinate with maintenance during a trip. It takes away from the experience.

We came to town for soccer, and it was easy to get where we needed to go. There were decent food options nearby, including an amazing Philippine place. A shoutout to the front desk staff, too. Someone went the extra mile to help us, and that made a big positive difference to our stay.
