Motel 6-Decatur, AL

We stayed five days, then added two more. The night manager was super nice, and the room was clean, but the toilet was rigged, with the chain coming off and the handle rigged too. I work third shift, and housekeeping knocked every morning by 9. When I paid, the day clerk was unfriendly. He said housekeeping was required by law, not optional, and that they’d inspect the room without notice and could walk in at any time. That scared my mom, who was there at night while I worked. He kept repeating it and said it was fine if we didn’t want to stay. We’re from Ohio, and I’d been transferred down here for work. What started as a friendly stay with a pleasant night employee changed my view of the motel. Walking in at any time didn’t feel safe.

We didn’t see bugs, and the room was clean enough, I guess. For the money it was okay, but there’s nothing luxurious about the place, and the online photos are a bit deceptive. The common area didn’t look like the pictures, and it smelled like chlorine and cigarettes. Parking at the back wasn’t great, just off the side of the road. It’s on a main road beside a Waffle House, so it wasn’t very quiet. There were only the bare minimums in the room. The “comforter” was basically a fancy sheet, the actual sheet didn’t fit the bed well, and there wasn’t a table and chairs like in the online photos. It looked like contractors had been in the room before us, with grimy handprints and footprints on the walls and light switches. If you want a cheap, no-frills place for one night, it could work. Don’t expect a little luxury.

The bed felt like a box spring, and for what they charged it was horrible. The TV worked fine and had good channels, and the hot water was okay, but the shower head wasn’t great. There wasn’t shampoo or even a bar of soap. When I called the front desk to ask about coffee in the lobby, the clerk said, “ma’am this is motel6”. At least there were three locks on the door? I would NOT recommend it or come back.

The room was revolting, with cigarette burns and tar stains on all the bedding. The dresser was missing drawers, the refrigerator was old and yellow, there were no toiletries, and the mattresses and box springs sagged. I couldn’t sleep because I was worried about roaches. At check-in, the lobby was locked because an employee’s baby was crawling around, so I had to check in through a grilled, bulletproof window. Worst hotel ever.
