Les Artistes Inn

The location is great, and our room was clean, though its dated look made it feel tired. I came back recently after being away for years, and the place no longer feels like the cute B&B I remembered. The whole stay felt strange and unwelcoming, including how the other guests checking in were treated. Privacy was a big issue. The rooms are close together, people pass by where they can see inside, and sound travels. You have to leave the windows open for airflow because the owners don't want guests using the AC, but even with them shut there's little privacy. The owners work in the office. The man wasn't very friendly, and the woman was boastful about being the architect. When we brought up concerns, she was defensive and dismissive.

A peaceful spot close to the ocean and restaurants, with a private feel and a lot of character. This little motel/inn is beautifully decorated and has a great atmosphere, right in the heart of Del Mar. It’s a low key place, so don’t expect white glove service.

I had a great stay in the Kings room, with its beach view. Check in was easy, there was plenty of parking, and John was great to talk to. He answered all my questions and was well spoken. I’d recommend this place when booking a trip, and I’d definitely stay again. No complaints.

The location worked really well for me, right on Del Mar’s main strip and an easy walk to shops and restaurants. Parking is free, which I appreciated, and City Hall across the street also has a free underground garage. The staff who checked us in and out were kind and thoughtful. This is a decent place with nice people, though it won’t suit everyone. If you’re used to international travel or boutique hotels, you may enjoy it more than someone who prefers a large chain such as Hyatt or Hilton. Rooms are spacious and bright, and each has its own decor and layout. That variety gives them character, but it also means some odd layouts and uneven storage. The different materials can make cleaning harder, so you may find some dust in corners or spots that aren’t perfectly clean. I wouldn’t call it disgustingly dirty, though some guests may not find that acceptable. Heating and AC come from small wall or window units, so comfort may vary. I’d suggest the hotel revisit its cleaning and service standards, make some rooms easier to clean, and consider adding cleaning staff to meet updated expectations.
