Magnolia Hotel Denver, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel

The staff took great care of us during our weeklong business gathering. I use a wheelchair, and they met me at the curb, handled my luggage, and made sure I had an ADA room with a bathtub I could get in and out of easily, even without use of my lower body. The front desk also asked when I’d be heading to the airport so someone could collect my bags. They catered breakfast and lunch each day, and the food was better than I expected. The location was great too, with several fun places within walking distance.

We brought our dog, and she was welcomed with two clean bowls. The fireplace suite was spacious and comfortable, though it was missing some trim boards along the kitchen base. That small eyesore should be easy to fix, and it’s the reason for my four stars. Check-in was quick, the staff warm, and the hotel is quiet and comfortable right in the heart of Denver. There are plenty of restaurants on site and many more a short walk away. The newly opened and updated 16th Street Mall is especially close. And grab the lobby cookies at 8 pm, they’re yummy!

We had a 700-square-foot suite with comfortable beds, lots of pillows, and a distinctive 1970s modern-furniture look. It was well appointed, and the building is an old historic-style hotel that’s kept up and cleaned regularly. There’s a decent bar, restaurant, and coffee shop on site, plus more than 100 restaurants within a 15-minute walk. The location is GREAT. The service problems, though, really put us off. We were supposed to get room service each morning of our three-night stay. After the first visit, there was no spare toilet paper. The next morning nobody came at all, leaving us without towels or toilet paper. I told the front desk as we went to lunch, but at 3 pm the room still hadn’t been serviced. I called for towels and TP, waited 90 minutes with nothing, then called again. It took another hour to get our supplies. Good facilities and location, but poor customer care.

My room was spacious and clean, and there was coffee and tea in the morning plus complimentary water bottles. I’d ask the hotel to switch away from plastic bottles to something more sustainable, though. What made the stay especially good was Eddie at the front desk. I arrived early after a flight and had been sick all night, so I really needed to rest. He was friendly, helpful, and went out of his way to accommodate me. I don’t get that kind of treatment at every hotel. He made things much easier than I expected. Give this man a raise! I’ll be back.
