I was paying $100 a night, but the plumbing didn’t work. The owner or manager was extremely rude and moody. When I asked about having the maintenance man fix the toilet, she flipped me off and kept hula hooping in the office. She also seemed to have new staff every couple of days. Daisy, the maid, allegedly has people stay at night for $50 without putting them in the book, and they all work under the table. I wonder what the IRS would think.

She’s now housing and feeding 300 asylum seekers, who have become like family to her. The elderly woman managing the motel had already been doing her best to keep it running on her own. I hope the city supports her and she receives more positive reviews, instead of being fined thousands of dollars for not meeting hotel standards.

We enjoy staying here. It’s quiet, there’s plenty of parking, the rooms are large, the staff are friendly, and our dogs are welcome. It’s cheap, and I haven’t heard bedbug complaints or had any in my room. Still, it’s run down, there are roaches, and there’s no air conditioning. The water keeps cycling from warm to extremely hot to cold. Sheets might be oversized top sheets instead of fitted, and the washcloths and towels can be stained or mismatched. The cleaning staff don’t speak much English, but they’re happy to bring toilet paper and other things. Also, there’s no Comedy Central on the TV.

The lounge is a dive, but the food tastes home-cooked. The place is very overpriced, though. Some renovated rooms look fantastic, but they’re the ones inside. I had to clean my own room, and the sink and tub had drainage that kept backing up. Roaches and mice came in under the door. People knocked at all hours and there was fighting. My room was next to a drug dealer, so I barely slept during my last three nights. Yong is nice, but very vindictive. The rest of the staff were rude as hell, and some staff seemed to be guests earning food or working a night in exchange for a stay. Yong’s son is in a wheelchair and was the only one who was a decent human being.
