Days Inn And Suites Des Moines Airport

With a 7 AM flight, I just needed somewhere for the night. The room was clean, the front desk staff were pleasant, and the hotel is across the street from the airport. There’s a shuttle every 30 minutes, and they let me leave my car parked there while I’m out of town. It covered everything I needed, and I’ll use them again.

The staff were so kind and helpful, especially AMY and Melissa at the front desk. The rooms are standard, nothing fancy or special, but very clean and comfortable. It’s an excellent location, just a four-minute drive to Des Moines International Airport, which is small and easy to get around. Breakfast was very good, with fresh waffles you can make yourself, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage gravy, coffee, muffins, breads, and bagels. It works well for a work trip or a vacation. Our daughter has just had her first baby, so we’ll be visiting often and staying here. Family friendly, and I highly recommend it!

The bed was clean, and I appreciated that the shower curtain and towels were clean too. But both rooms had AC and heat filters that badly needed changing and smelled terrible, so I had to sleep with the window open. The rooms themselves smelled odd as well. The men at the front desk really need deodorant, and the front desk attendant kept disappearing. I lost count of how often the “be back in 5 minutes” sign was up with nobody there to help. There wasn’t proper hand soap in the bathroom, just a bar of soap, which I found gross and unsanitary, so I had to use shampoo. They should put dispensers by the sinks and air fresheners in the rooms. The gravy at breakfast was cold, as if it had been poured straight into an unheated crockpot. Crockpots look bad and don’t keep food properly hot. The parking lot is tiny and makes it almost impossible to back out of a space. There are way too many park-and-fly customers, so regular guests have to put up with it. The park-and-fly price is reasonable, and it’s less than five minutes from the airport. I’d rate the stay 3 out of 10 at best, and only gave it two stars because I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it.

As a traveling respiratory therapist, I’ve really liked staying here. The hotel has been accommodating, and it’s ten minutes from the hospital where I work. My room has been very clean, staff are friendly, and breakfast in the morning gives you a variety of choices.
