Embassy Suites Hotel Des Moines Downtown

We booked the Presidential Suite at Embassy Suites Downtown for our daughter’s wedding weekend and spent nearly $2,000 across the three nights. We paid over $700 for Thursday and just over $1,000 each for Friday and Saturday, so we expected a premium stay. We wouldn’t return or recommend paying suite prices here unless the hotel makes major updates and improves housekeeping. The suite looked neglected, worn, and dirty. The sofa had visible drink stains, furniture was badly scuffed and damaged, and surfaces were chipped and scratched. Finishes were peeling, and there was dust built up on the air vent. We understand an older hotel may look dated, but it still shouldn’t be dirty. The room felt poorly maintained and wasn’t properly cleaned. Basic cleanliness and upkeep should come with a Presidential Suite at that price.

The atrium lobby was spacious and beautiful, and the whole hotel felt clean, organized, and well maintained. I also appreciated the complimentary breakfast and evening reception, which made the stay more comfortable and added value. My suite was clean and comfortable, with separate sleeping and living areas that made it easy to relax. The staff were friendly, professional, and attentive throughout my visit. Embassy Suites by Hilton Des Moines Downtown has a welcoming feel and a great spot downtown, close to restaurants, entertainment, and local attractions. A strong choice for business or leisure trips to Des Moines.

The room was very clean, and I slept well in the comfortable bed. We always enjoy a continental breakfast, and I liked the shower setup, with the controls on one side and the showerhead on the other so you don’t get wet while adjusting the temperature. I also appreciate that the front sitting area in an Embassy Suites helps block noise from the hallway and central section. The location worked well for us, though there was a lot of construction right out front. We paid for parking, which I know is common in big cities, then walked over the river to meet friends for drinks. I’d stay here again. We’d been here before, and since our last visit it has been renovated and looks more modern. The front desk woman seemed annoyed when I needed help checking in because the digital key in my app wasn’t working, and she wasn’t very friendly. The room was clean but felt more lived in than average for a hotel. I showed some pictures and a video.

My first visit to Des Moines felt special thanks to Reuben and Paula. Reuben made my omelets perfectly every morning, and Paula greeted me at breakfast with such a warm smile. She was always helpful and made a lovely start to the day. They both work hard and deserve a raise. The free breakfast was fabulous, and I had an amazing stay.
