Wingate by Wyndham - Destin FL

The room was clean and nice, the gym was great, and the staff were friendly. It was too cold during our stay to try the pool or hot tub, though both looked clean and nice. The price was amazing, and breakfast was one of the best I’ve had at a hotel. There were omelets, potatoes, sausage, waffles, oatmeal, bakery items, and more. Everything tasted delicious. The staff were great and accommodating, and they refunded my stay. I found another hotel nearby after both rooms and the halls smelled off. The first room had a musty, moldy smell, so I asked for another. In the second room and the hallways, it smelled like Fabreeze was being used to cover something up. The hallway carpets were also really dirty from foot traffic. I was frustrated, but I didn’t take it out on the staff. They were great.

I always choose this property when I visit Destin a couple of times a year, and I’ll definitely return. Still, it’s the little issues that can turn people away. The TV kept losing its connection every 20 minutes, going black for about 10 seconds before reconnecting. It happened all night and again in the morning. The room and bathroom were spotless, and breakfast was plentiful and appreciated. I don’t use cream in my coffee, but they had special flavored mini-moos, a nice extra touch. The shower curtain was missing, though it was an easy fix, and I had to move the nightstand to plug in the alarm clock. I completed online pre-check-in but had to provide all my information again at the property. It was also odd that the Wingate property didn’t show up in the Wyndham app, even when I searched for “Wingate Destin.” I ended up booking through the Wingate website and entering my login details. It was off-season and the property seemed only about 30% occupied, so I can’t explain why.

The service and staff were very friendly, and we had a great time in Destin. The Wingate was great, with a good breakfast. It’s not pet friendly, though, so I’d stay more often if it were. The landscaping around the bushes and trees had lots of pine needles on the ground. It looked very snake-like, and I didn’t want to sit outside near the hotel. I’d suggest clearing them away because they’re a fire hazard and could be home to snakes. If someone drops a cigarette ember in there, the place could go up in flames.
