We were almost the only people in the Apparatus Room, yet they asked whether we had a dinner reservation and seemed unsure about seating us. We got a table right away, and our waiter was wonderful. I ordered trout but was served salmon and told it was trout. It was tasty either way. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with comfortable, roomy rooms and friendly enough service. Its location is hard to beat, especially around the holidays, and it’s easy to get around on foot. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting.

A stay in a building with so much history feels different, and the Detroit Foundation Hotel does a lovely job of keeping its early-20th-century character while making things comfortable and modern. The rooms are spacious, with thoughtful design and architectural details still in view. A really distinctive place to stay. Highly recommended!

The staff were attentive and helpful, and don’t miss the merch. I also loved how the hotel brings together contemporary design and Detroit’s history. The rooms are simple, modern, and beautifully put together, with lots of little touches throughout. There’s plenty to do nearby: check out the Guardian building for more Detroit architecture, have a cocktail at the apparatus room, and ask the bartender or concierge for ideas on exploring the city’s foodie scene. Such a beautiful reuse of the space.

We had a fantastic time and will be back. Our room was stunning, and the food and drinks at The Apparatus Room were top notch. The restaurant and bar staff were amazing, and check-in was handled exceptionally well. The historic building is beautiful and right in the middle of everything we wanted to see in Detroit. Campus Martius events, the Christmas Market, and great bars and places to eat are just steps away. 5/5 stars!

There was quite a Halloween parade happening outside while Comic-con was on by the convention center, which made for a fun stay at this lovely hotel. The restaurant and bar were nice too. I liked the historical touches that nod to its beginnings as a firehouse.
