The Wisconsin Wood Inn

The bed was comfortable and the shower was good. The ceiling's wood slats were coming loose, and the floor near the door was warped and lifting. Internet kept cutting out, so the TV and phone weren't usable when we arrived. Bring your own shampoo and that kind of stuff. I usually do anyway, and you'll need it here.

The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable, at least. We had four rooms for a funeral, and two of them had heat that wouldn't work and kept tripping breakers. The other two were fine, which was a strange setup. The shower heads came straight down from the ceiling, an odd arrangement. The desk clerk had all the keys piled up on the counter. I probably wouldn't return unless they'd finished the updates.

The owner/manager surprised us with a discounted double room after a torrential storm drove us out of our tent at 10:30pm. We hadn't planned for the extra expense, so that was appreciated. The place was old and in transition, but fairly clean and, most of all, dry. Thank you.

The noise is what put us off coming back. People were banging on the walls until after 3 am, then it started again at 5 am, with more noise from people sitting in the parking lot. There were lots of flies in the room too. The hotel was full of migrant workers, as other reviewers have often mentioned, and some guests stayed up very late and got up very early. Seeing about ten people get out of a van and go into one room also made us wonder what was going on. The room itself seemed fairly decent at first, with a big king bed and a small kitchen. But one whole wall had no power, the hot water barely worked, and the TV was on a broken bracket. Those issues alone might still have earned three or four stars. We'll likely stay elsewhere next time.
