Astoria Hotel and Event Center

We were there to visit our grandchildren. The pool and hot tub were great, and our room was nice, but the bed was hard as a rock. A lot of cleaning and upkeep seemed overdue. The room hadn't been dusted in ages, and the same garbage was overflowing outside for all three days. The cigarette disposal was spilling onto the ground too. Lights were out in our bathroom and in five spots around the pool, with other broken lights outside. There were no pool towels, and the restaurant menus were sticky and caked with something. With cleaning and maintenance, this could actually be a four or five star place.

The bar and grill being closed wasn't mentioned until checkout, and there was clear water damage that hadn't been fixed. The room didn't look like the pictures. The tile floors were so disgusting I cleaned them myself, and someone else's lip liner was on the headboard. The bathroom vent was awful, and so was the hair dryer. A complete disappointment. I'll never stay there again.

The outside looked beautiful, but the interior didn't live up to it. The rooms were dated, with torn wallpaper, worn furniture, and flimsy faucets that weren't secured to the vanity or tub. The tub drained very slowly, so water stood there while I showered. There were broken tiles and worn carpet in several spots in the hallways. The price was very affordable, a little over $100 for a king room.

I booked a room for the night of Dec. 28 and got to Astoria 30 minutes later, but nobody was at the front desk. I used the desk phone as directed by the big sign beside it, and all the other front desk phones rang. I watched a pizza delivery person and another guest arrive, but still no one showed up. After waiting 20 minutes, I gave up and went somewhere else.
