Lone Star Inn - Dickinson

The room was filthy. The floors and towels were dirty, the covers smelled bad, and there was a strong cigarette odor throughout. That was especially upsetting with babies along. Staff were rude during the stay, too. Checkout was at 11, and after I got agreement to stay another half hour, they still knocked hard at 11 and demanded I leave. They acted like they might come in while I was there with my babies, which felt intimidating and unsafe. They also advertised free breakfast and cribs for children under two, but at arrival I was told there was no free breakfast and no crib available. A king bed is not a safe or acceptable substitute for an infant. This whole stay was stressful and unacceptable. I’m requesting a full refund, and wouldn’t recommend the place, especially for families.

Check-in was pleasant, parking seemed secure, and the room was spotless with a comfortable mattress. We were there for one night after a family Fourth of July event, and I’d brought my own bedding as usual. Good thing, because there was no blanket, just a silk cover with a burn hole, and the mattress pad had one too. Maybe housekeeping missed it. Otherwise it worked fine in a pinch, and I hope they fix the bedding issue.

The room was quiet enough that we couldn’t hear the neighbors or anything outside, and it was impressively clean for the price. The location also worked perfectly for our Galveston and Lagoonfest trip.

I was traveling alone as a woman and worried I might end up sleeping in my car after another hotel turned me away for being under 21. This motel was fine with my age and just politely asked me to keep the noise down. The area looked a little sketchy when I arrived, so I was nervous, but it turned out safer than I expected. I stayed three nights without a problem. Even in a safe area, I’d still be careful and aware of my surroundings.
