Red Roof Inn Dillon, SC

It was a simple place, not exactly a five-star hotel, but the beds were nice and there was a good spot to shower and sit and relax. I watched stranger things season five first instalment and enjoyed it. The two nights didn’t break my bank account. I stayed for two days on my way home from a long trip, and the price was right. The cleaning service mostly left me alone, and I didn’t see any bugs, which has been an issue for me at some other motels and hotels. That’s why I’m giving it three stars. It wasn’t anything special.

I’ve stayed at RRI's before, and this was by far the WORST. There were problems everywhere. The breakfast was coffee, waffles, and dry cereal with no milk, spoons, or knives, and there was no fruit, eggs, bread, napkins, or apology. Towels felt like sandpaper and were smaller than usual. The floors apparently hadn’t been wet-mopped for weeks, the outdoor waste cans were overflowing, and the vending machine looked abandoned. The pool had been filled with dirt, and the property fence was broken with pieces lying around. Inside, the bathroom door jamb was splintered and had no strike plate or repair. The tub bottom was badly cracked and leaked water through the crack, despite an ineffective caulk job. Shower water temperature swung around so much that you could get burned if you weren’t careful. The vinyl plank flooring was separating and cracked at the joints. Paint peeled from the bathroom ceiling, the exhaust fan didn’t work, and the heater and AC controls were worn, unlabeled, and on a loose cover that flopped around. Wall outlets were loose and wouldn’t hold plugs. There were amateurish wall patches throughout, no tissues, no ice bucket bags, and no Do Not Disturb tag. The office chair sank.

The room was disgusting, with ashes and drug straws in the nightstand drawers, and they don’t give you room keys. The girl who checked us in was pleasant, at least, but otherwise forget about it. I’d never recommend this place to anyone.

I was stranded there by a snowstorm and had to stop, but I’ll never go back. The woman at the desk had an attitude, charged me twice the online advertised rate because I wasn’t a member, and laughed at me while I was stuck. The outside card locks didn’t work because staff hadn’t maintained them, so she had to let me into my room. The first room, #120, had no heat. It was 19°F that night. After I complained, she moved me to room #116, where the laminate floor was wavy and the light switch plates were broken.
