For what we paid, this worked out well. It’s right off the interstate, and downtown Brunswick was only about a 5-10 minute drive. St. Simon’s Island took around 25 minutes, depending on traffic. I’d loop around the building to reach the traffic light before turning left toward downtown. The staff were warm and welcoming, and everything was clean and smelled fresh, except the room was stale when the air conditioning had been off for a while. The hotel is older and parts of the bathroom could use renovation, but nothing stopped working. The tub worked and didn’t leak through the cracks, which they’d tried to patch, and we didn’t see any bugs. There are lights and security cameras at every corner, plus a fence around the property. The website explained the extra fees and policies clearly, and I got plenty of check-in and check-out reminders. Breakfast really is light: white bread, butter and jams, two cereals that were replenished, two juices, coffee, and milk. There’s a double toaster, which I used for bagels I brought. It’s a good option for the price and location, but probably not if you’re after fresh renovations or a bigger breakfast.

The rooms are small and quaint. It’s a two-star place, as its Google ratings suggest, and could do if you need an overnight stop on a very tight budget. Breakfast is self-service, with toast, cereal, milk, regular tea, coffee, orange and apple juice, plus sugar, Splenda, and cream. The coffee comes from an instant machine with hot water and regular or decaf options. They don’t serve any other food.

The person who checked me in was friendly, but the rest of the stay was a letdown. I’m requesting a refund, and I have photos of the problems. The room smelled strongly musty when I walked in. The TV volume wouldn’t work, and there was visible mold in the shower, so I couldn’t use it. At the desk, I asked for another room and was told the hotel was fully booked, though the parking lot didn’t look that way. The bedspread had several holes that looked like burn marks despite this being a non-smoking room. I also found small spots of blood on the sheets, which made me worry about pests. I slept fully dressed on top of the comforter to be cautious. The elevator had an “Out of Order” sign that looked like it had been there a long time. I expected breakfast at 6 a.m., but there wasn’t any. In my experience, this place needs a full renovation and I can’t recommend staying here.

The rooms stink, and ours was in terrible shape. The TV was so loud that neither its controls nor the remote could turn the sound down. The sheets were brown with cigarette burns, and the towels were dirty, brown, and stained. I bring my own linen, luckily. The microwave didn’t work either. There were drug addicts hanging around the back area. I stayed here two years ago and it was nice then, but it isn’t anymore. Don’t waste your money.

The location felt very sketchy, and there was grease on both the bedding and the floor. The bath drain also needs to be snaked. I wouldn’t stay here again.
