Thunderbird Motel

The one good thing was the front desk service. The gentleman understood why I wanted a refund and handled it immediately. The stay itself was a mess. We weren’t expecting anything fancy. At noon, the grounds looked questionable, so I asked a housekeeper to show me a room before we committed. It was spacious and clean, though dated and dark, and seemed acceptable. The desk was closed, with a phone number posted, and we were told to come back at 2pm. When we did, the room we’d seen was no longer available. The next room hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guest. We were given another room, supposedly clean, but it was horrifying: unknown substances on the walls, filthy carpet, beds, bedding, and curtains. In under ten minutes we saw three roaches and asked for our money back. It was meant to be a cheap stay, and a reminder that you get what you pay for.

The office staff were very friendly, and our renovated room was a pleasant surprise. We were passing through on the way to Colorado and hadn’t realized it was Dosge City days. There was hardly any availability, and we’d already tried several places without luck. The woman in the office explained that they had renovated and unrenovated rooms, so we chose a renovated one. The price was very reasonable, too.

The motel is being updated one room at a time, and the work didn’t cause any bothersome noise. My room was very clean, and the property is close to the area attractions at a good price. The young woman owner was professional and accommodating. The staff alone are worth stopping by for.

I’m glad I picked this motel. It was quiet and had a friendly feel. The Thunderbird is a very symbolic spirit.
