Tucked just behind the main street, this place is a real find for the price, with plenty of quick food nearby. The room was spotless, had all the basics, and the electronics, heating, and A/C felt up to date. Well worth staying.

I stay at a lot of Hampton inns, and the bed here was so soft and squishy I couldn't sleep. The pillows were tiny and went flat right away. Breakfast was gross too. The oatmeal was so watered down it tasted like nothing, even with things added. The boiled eggs were slimy, the apples squishy, and the scrambled eggs watery. At 8 in the morning, housekeeping talked on a walkie-talkie just outside my room for a good 15 minutes. The walls are so thin I felt like I was in the conversation.

There were no plugs for the Jacuzzi tub, so we had to stop it ourselves. The room situation was worse: we found bed bugs on the sheets and pillows, took one to the front desk, and were moved. The next room had spiders, stink bugs, and ladybugs. The following day, we heard cleaners saying they couldn't see any bugs and that we must be imagining it. I pulled one of them aside and offered to show the photos I'd taken. I don't know how this place has four stars. Wouldn't recommend it, I'd rather stay at a Motel 8.

We had been driving all day after closing on our house, and I would have liked to stay at Hampton Inn Spartanburg-North I-85. Instead, after leaving, we found a room at a competitor. At 9 pm the lot still wasn't full. We arrived at the Spartanburg hotel and a friendly young woman checked us in. On my way upstairs I tried to look at the fitness room for the next morning, but my key didn't work, so I went back to the desk. She helped without any trouble. Then I found the room wasn't ready: a closet blanket was spread over the bed, with a loaf of bread on the desk, a wet washcloth in the bathroom, a hand towel on the tub, and food in the fridge. I went back down. The same employee brought a manager out to help change rooms. He didn't greet us or say anything, just grumpily showed her what to do and disappeared. We took our luggage to the new room on the third floor and ordered food delivery. About 20 minutes later, my husband went down to meet the driver. The manager asked whether we had a truck with a small trailer. When my husband said yes, he said the hotel was full and we had to move it, gesturing toward the front of the hotel and saying, “move it out there.” We were parked along the side, using three spaces, and I could see more than 50 empty spots. It was 7:39 pm. We went to the lobby to ask where exactly he meant, since the only place that looked like “out there” was a dark wooded area with no working streetlights. The manager was in the hallway with another employee, apparently moving televisions. When I asked him to show us, he sighed like I was bothering him. At the front, he said to park on the other side of the overhang. I asked if he meant the paved area, and he snapped that he meant off the property. Our generator and other belongings were on the 5-by-8 trailer because we'd just sold our house and were moving. I said I wasn't comfortable leaving it where there were no cameras and the lights by the tree line didn't work. He quickly replied it didn't matter, since the hotel didn't cover theft anyway. He said I could check out but wouldn't refund my money. We disagreed about how long we'd been in the room, since we'd had to change rooms and walk the lot. He finally said, “I'll do it if it will shut you up.” We loaded everything back into the vehicle. I went to the desk for a printed receipt. The manager again didn't acknowledge me. The young woman printed it, and I thanked them both, wished them a good night, and said I hoped things got better. He said nothing. On Saturday, 10/11/25, Hilton emailed me without prompting, saying I had contacted them about the stay and that the hotel should have followed up about Guest Assistance Case xxxxxx. I hadn't formally contacted Hilton, and by Monday, 10/13/25, nobody from the hotel had reached out. I don't know whether the manager filed a report that triggered the email. Either way, he seemed overwhelmed by the expected sold-out status.
