Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta Duluth/Gwinnett Place

I switched to this nearby hotel after checking into a motel and seeing some conditions that concerned me. The difference was startling, in the best way, and I felt relieved right away. The inside was beautiful, and my room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The customer service was excellent, especially from the staff member on Saturday night, February 7th. It was a great improvement and a great experience.

I feel like people with mental health conditions are being attacked here. My wife has a small service dog and has not been apart from him for more than an hour in the past five years. We stayed at this Marriott in Gwinnett County and explained that the dog is her legal service animal. They accepted him, but when we went to the next street over to get food, we were gone only about 35 to 45 minutes. He was crated the whole time. Afterward, we were charged $125 for leaving the animal unattended. I can’t see another reason for this charge than an attack on us and the so called “privilege” we were given. The woman must have been watching our room and waiting for us to leave. We were gone such a short time, so how would she even know unless she was stalking us to target us? If this was a serious rule, they should spell it out specifically to avoid confusion. I hate to assume, but I’ve gotten these kinds of looks too many times, the look when someone disapproves of your interracial relationship. The disdain on their faces is undeniable. If you don’t want to be attacked blindly, I suggest not staying at this Marriott in Gwinnett County. I gave them a chance to fix what I believe was an erroneous charge by disputing it and letting them investigate whether it was necessary for my wife’s condition. They didn’t contact my wife or her mental health therapist. Was the ADA in Georgia contacted to ask about the legalities? Who knows. They don’t get to decide what each individual patient needs. It’s very disappointing that this company is attacking ordinary people. This is a picture of the big bad dog before he goes to bed.

I booked here to reach status for 2025. The person taking my reservation looked at my account and saw I was a few nights short of Platinum. When I asked whether booking three rooms for one night would get me there, she got excited and said, “yeah girl, you’ll be Platinum.” So I was shocked to learn after the new year that only ONE of those three nights counted toward status. I was then two nights short of Platinum, and Marriott refused to help. I’ve been a loyal Marriott customer for a long time, and they’ve treated me very poorly over this. Staff should understand which nights do and don’t count toward status.

The hotel itself is really nice, and the other staff were excellent, including housekeeping and the cooks. But the manager was very rude. My family and I heard her cursing out staff members, and she had a nasty attitude. The next day, Robert was rude too and not friendly at all. I felt sorry for the guys who bring food to the hotel after she cursed them out. A new manager could make this hotel awesome.
