Country Inn & Suites By Radisson Dunbar Charleston Hotel

The hotel itself wasn't great quality, and the billing made the stay much worse. United had given me a voucher after my flight was cancelled, but the hotel charged my card several times. They said there would be a $100 fee, and the charges were for different amounts, including one night's rate and a holding fee. They refunded everything except the one-night charge, which was meant to be covered by the United voucher. When I called to ask what the charges were for and request a refund, they said management was only available two hours a day. That sounds like BS to me. It seemed like they were trying to get paid twice.

Clean room, standard amenities, and friendly staff made this a decent overnight stop before the longer stretch of our road trip. The rates were reasonable, and I’d book here again if I’m back in the area.

The free breakfast was hot and good, and the sheets on the bed were fresh and clean. The place was affordable and very clean, with great service from check-in through checkout. I got to speak with manager RAJ, who was easy to spot walking around and inspecting things. Megan at the front desk was lovely to talk to, and I saw her dusting and cleaning all morning with a smile. Thanks, Radisson Gang. As Arnold Schwarzenegger famously said, “I’ll be back.”

The breakfast uses styrofoam plates and bowls, which are bad for you and for the planet. Hot food on Styrofoam can cause chemicals to leach into it. We stopped here midway through a road trip because it’s conveniently just off the highway, and it did the job as a clean, comfortable place to sleep. But whoever handles maintenance is a hack. I’m used to 5 star hotels, and the difference in maintenance quality was clear, as my pictures show.
