Days Inn Durango

Absolutely horrible. There were bugs all over the room, including on the windowsill, and it was dirty throughout. The fridge had some sort of syrup left by the previous guest. Stains covered the beds and curtains, and the bathroom was in bad shape too. You’d get better service at pretty much any other hotel.

The building could use a facelift, and the bathroom door closes in a strange way. Still, the room was clean and the staff more than made up for the outdated decor. Richard kept checking what he could do to make my visit better, and Kayla cleaned carefully and was cheerful. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The north side of Durango is a hard-to-beat location.

For the price, I think this is a good deal compared with other Durango hotels and motels, where rooms can be smaller and less nice. The rooms here are large, with furniture that looks newer and walls that may have been freshly painted. There are two sinks, one in the bathroom and one just outside, which is handy when several people are getting ready. The bathroom itself still feels dated, though the shower works well. Staff are friendly and accommodating, even with very few people on hand right now. Breakfast is limited to cereal, oatmeal packets, and yogurt. The walls are thin, and street noise comes through the poorly sealed room door.

Dave at the front desk was AMAZING. He went out of his way to help and always had a smile, and I haven’t seen a hotel worker care this much about guests or the place in years. He made up for the hotel’s rough spots. Our room was clean and spacious, with a fridge, microwave, and small TV. The bed was firm. We were in a sub-level room facing a dirt road alley, which suited us, and it was quiet. The walls are thin enough that we could hear the neighbor’s “business,” and the toilet ran exceptionally loudly. The bathrooms are very outdated, but clean, which matters most. We were super happy with our stay, keeping in mind this is a review among lower-rated hotels, not finer establishments.
