Fairfield Inn & Suites Durango

Breakfast was basic, nothing special, but it did the job. The room was simple too, though it had what I needed for a short visit. Fairfield Inn & Suites Durango was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. It’s conveniently placed near the main roads and not too far from downtown Durango. A reliable, reasonably comfortable choice for a short trip, even if it isn’t luxurious.

Breakfast was a mess. A full tour bus was staying there, and when we came down at 7, right as breakfast opened, it was chaotic with no seats free. We wanted to get going, so we skipped it and left. It wasn't the hotel's fault, but it still wasn't great. The bathroom was spotless, while the room itself was clean enough but a little dark. Staff were friendly, though they didn't go out of their way. The location looks far from the main center, but it's only a 10-15 minute walk. Leaving the car behind also meant we didn't have to feed a parking meter.

We forgot an item after we'd already started driving away. I called right away, and the staff went back into our room to look for it and retrieve it. We turned around and drove back to get it, so thank you for making that effort. I also asked to check out at 12 PM instead of 11 AM, and they approved it without further questions. I did use my Marriott Bonvoy membership status for that. We were only there one night, but had a great experience. The location was good, and our room was clean, spacious, and tidy. The bathroom was large and clean, and breakfast was an excellent spread served hot.

The front desk staff's indifferent attitude was the biggest disappointment, even though we'd earned a status level through frequent travel. The hotel was functional, but not fantastic, and not what I expect from a Marriott. Our ground-floor king room faced the parking lot, with headlights shining right beside the bed, like a cheap motel. There was nowhere to relax: just the bed or toilet to sit on, and we used the one uncomfortable desk chair for coats. On the brighter side, the gym had a good range of weights for a low-weight, high-rep workout. Breakfast was okay, the country gravy was good, but the scones weren't. Old Main Street is within walking distance, with some lovely places to eat.
