The model apartments look nice, but mine has a lot of flaws, including quick, low-quality fixes where it seems they think painting over something makes the problem disappear. For what you pay, the quality is questionable. There are plenty of roaches, and the previous review denying that is a mess. I'm not even sure my apartment was cleaned before move-in, though I had no other options. Staff haven't been helpful in some situations, and communication is poor, even though repairs themselves happen on time. A maintenance man once arrived with no warning, didn't knock, and opened my door while I was there. He got a bad attitude when I was startled, which is scary as a woman living alone. They need access to the apartment more often than at other properties I've lived in. I don't like having to crate my dog, but it's happened a lot since I moved here, and it's frustrating.

I moved out three months ago and had hoped to put this place behind me, but a recent billing mess made me feel I had to share what happened. Debt collectors contacted me claiming I owed money, though Alden Place had never emailed or notified me of a balance. After half an hour on the phone, I found out it was for my final month's bills. The receipt they eventually sent showed the wrong amount had been charged. When I raised it, the staff member just said “okay,” with no apology or explanation. That response fits my broader experience there. Management threw out my vacuum without telling me. It was clearly my property, sitting in an open area and not in anyone's way, while other residents routinely left belongings outside their doors without trouble. Maintenance was slow, pests were a problem, and I had to document and follow up repeatedly to get things addressed. Baby cockroaches fell on me while I was showering. I bought my own door stoppers because the seals were never properly fixed. The holes in the door weren't approved for repair or extra sealing until I advocated for myself, as the photos show. I can already imagine management saying everything was within the lease. Maybe so, but do you want to live somewhere that hides behind the lease instead of showing basic respect and accountability? Tenant rights are minimal in North Carolina, which makes that attitude matter. Between the pests, slow responses, discarded belongings, billing mistake, and collectors contacting me months later, this was easily my most frustrating rental experience. I was a law student and needed home to be as stress-free as possible. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere.

My year at Alden Place was enjoyable, and the leasing agents and staff were respectful. Maintenance requests were handled within a reasonable time whenever I put one in. The problem was pest control. Renters pay monthly for a bundle that includes valet pickup, pet, and pest services, but I often found pest control only came quarterly. That meant I would unexpectedly find bugs and other pests, which was disturbing. I believe in giving people room to improve, so hopefully this is an easy issue to fix.

The location and price would have worked well because I need to move quickly, but I left without seeing the one-bedroom apartment I drove from Maryland to view. They won't show the available units in person, only a model and virtual tour. If I wanted a virtual tour, I could do that myself, and a model, perhaps only a two-bedroom based on other reviews, isn't the same as the actual apartment on offer. This feels like a major red flag and not a good leasing practice. Evan, the leasing agent, said he'd follow up by email, but hadn't done so by the time I wrote this. This would have failed a secret shopping audit. I expect the response to this review will be generic and lead to no change or real consideration. Why not let prospects see exactly what they're getting? Do better.
