After checkout, I was hit with fees and charges because they said I needed to come into the office to make additional weekly payments. They hadn’t mentioned that at check-in or called to let me know, even though they had my card information and approval. I booked the whole stay through their app, and the estimate for two weeks of work lodging was around $900. It’s now over $1,200. The GM was the one person who seemed to understand what went wrong. Even while I was irate, she was respectful and willing to fix the fees. Still, the whole experience was so frustrating that I’ll use another place for future work in the area. The GM was pleasant when I checked in, but otherwise this stay has been disappointing. I saw a black, sandy substance on the bedspread and asked for clean sheets. The night manager said they had none, and told me to pack up and move rooms. I reluctantly went to the new room, but it smelled smoky, had a broken smoke detector from the previous tenant, and the AC looked partly dismantled. I went right back and asked to keep my original room, saying I’d be happy to wait for clean sheets in the morning. I’d rather sleep on the cleaner top sheets than deal with those smells and risk being blamed for something in a room I’d been forced into. The next day the sheets still hadn’t been changed. I had full workdays in the area and couldn’t keep reminding staff about the same request. That night, after four days in my original room, I came back from work to find someone else in it. They’d checked me out and moved me to the other room without telling me. I’d left some food in the original room, and I’m glad I hadn’t left my computer or firearm there. Now I’m stuck in that awful-smelling room, with work again tomorrow and no way to resolve it tonight. I don’t know what’s going on here, and at this point I can’t recommend the place.

The location is great, and the rooms are shabby but usable. Still, I can’t recommend staying here. I was next door to what seemed like a 24-hour heroin distribution center. People knocked, banged, pleaded, and yelled at all hours. Some of the customers couldn’t make it down the stairs and would be fading in my path as I came and went. It didn’t feel safe or comfortable.

I wanted to leave and get my money back. The service was unprofessional, and the front desk attendant wasn’t there when I needed plates and silverware. When I finally reached her, she was unprofessional with me. The room hadn’t been cleaned properly. There were strands of hair on the toilet seat and in the shower, no washcloths, and no extra toiletries like hand soap, shower gel, or shampoo. The stove and fridge were filthy too. This was the worst hotel in Durham, and I won’t be coming back. I wouldn’t advise anyone visiting from out of town to stay here. You get what you pay for. Good luck.

I have two young kids, so we didn’t stay in the room at all. I’d read reviews about frequent drug activity and tried to cancel a week before, but was told it became nonrefundable after 24-48 hours. When I went to see the room, there were black stains all over the carpet, it smelled of cigarettes and alcohol, and the bathroom looked disgusting. We didn’t come back to the hotel until checkout. It was the worst experience. If you’re fine with dirty floors, stinky rooms, and a nasty bathroom, this might suit you. I wouldn’t spend time or money at any Extended Stay again. Since I said I wouldn’t be staying, I think at least half of what I paid should have been refunded. I wish reviews let you give zero stars.

The staff were polite, but they couldn’t do much about the conditions. My room was filthy, there were no towels, and rotting food had been left in the refrigerator freezer. I couldn’t find any cleaning staff. This place falls short of the quality Extended Stay is usually known for. It seems to cater to transient guests and isn’t being kept up to standard. Management hasn’t corrected the issue mentioned in a review three months ago. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
