Our rooms were nice and the hotel is beautiful, but there wasn’t a refrigerator in ours. We were there for a basketball tournament with lots of families and kids, and the security presence felt like it was meant for the President. Guards followed kids through the halls, stood on every floor with walkie-talkies, and reported where the kids were. A few of ours were bouncing a silent foam basketball away from other guests and were told to stop. Then an adult in our group, upset that an employee had scolded the kids, was refused bar service. She was told she’d been “over served” after just two drinks she had bought at the hotel bar. Meanwhile, a rowdy group of parents kept ordering rounds of shots and the bartender served them happily. Ridiculous. They’re kids, not criminals. Do better, Marriott. Our whole team plans to stay somewhere else for next year’s Spartan Classic.

My roommate and I have been here for about two weeks. I’m really just posting to give Joe credit for how helpful and committed he is. He’s a cool guy, always happy to handle requests, and great to chat with. #joenation

I’ve stayed here six times this past year and had good experiences until this visit. We were in room 627, where the AC wasn’t working, and it stayed at 76 the whole time. I mentioned it in the morning and was told engineering would look into it. Some kind of credit or a free room would have been nice. The hotel was full because the Notre dame hockey team was there, so when we realized at 10 pm that the room was like a sauna, I didn’t try to get moved.

The service was fantastic, and the bar service was excellent too. The location is about as close as you can get to Michigan State's campus without staying in a dorm.

Julie, the event planner, was amazing. With just four weeks to pull it together, the Marriott helped us arrange an impromptu wedding reception in the Beaumont Room for 75 guests. They took care of everything, including the food and linens, so we only needed to bring ourselves and a Spotify playlist. The food was delicious, and the event felt classy and fun. Being right downtown in a college town made the atmosphere especially lively.
