Fairfield Inn by Marriott East Rutherford Meadowlands

Our wedding guests stayed at the FairField Inn by Marriott on 2/28/26, after Nanina’s in the park recommended it. The hotel manager, Joani, helped set up the wedding website and shuttle, and made sure our guests were treated well when they arrived. The hotel was clean and comfortable, with a convenient breakfast buffet and a good location for getting to and from the airport. Having the option to hire their modern 40-passenger shuttle to the wedding venue was excellent. Thank you, Joani.

The staff were nice, the location was convenient, and the complimentary breakfast was a welcome perk. The design is dated, but the price isn't bad. Still, the poor cleaning and room upkeep are hard to overlook, and I'd look at other places along this strip before booking again. I expected better from a Marriott-branded hotel. At first our room looked clean and smelled fresh. A closer look showed otherwise: the bathroom mirror badly needed cleaning, and there were several small marks on the walls that could likely be scrubbed off. The shower and sink water heated quickly on the second floor. I didn't see pests, but with cleaning like this, bed bugs could become a problem in the future. The beds were the worst part. My son and I couldn't get comfortable in our second-floor room with two queens. The blankets felt coarse and didn't smell or feel fresh. Even a small movement made them rustle like potato chip bags. I found several nickel-sized stains on the bedspread and was grossed out. It was the middle of the night, we were exhausted, and we were only staying one night, so we stayed put. I slept worse than I ever have in a hotel. Check the linens before settling in. The outlets were finicky too. Neither outlet on the lamp between the beds worked, and there were no USB outlets, so bring charging blocks.

Noise was the main drawback: kids ran up and down the halls and kept waking me. Apart from that, it was a decent stay. The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean, and Fairfield is well placed for trips to and from New York. I usually bring a small cleaning kit to wipe things down myself, and the tub could've been cleaner. The hotel could use a few upgrades.

I came back because I'd stayed here before, but I won't return. Breakfast was filthy: old, cold boiled eggs, scrambled eggs that looked like plastic, tomato sauce dumped on a plate, and strawberry sauce dumped out too. It felt like a prison meal, all that was missing was uniforms. The prices are higher than last year, too. What's wrong with America? How is this allowed, and where's the health department? Marriott needs to fix this ASAP.
