Edgar Hotel Martha's Vineyard, an Ascend Collection Hotel

The location was ideal for exploring the island, and the front desk staff were friendly and easy to approach. We came from Scotland with my husband, kids, and sister for 2 nights as part of a holiday that included NY and Salem. We booked a family room plus a separate double for my sister; both were clean, modern, and comfortable. This was our favourite hotel by far, and we hope to return sometime. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

The room was in unacceptable shape: I documented stains all over the carpet, scratches on the baseboards, and unsanitary marks on the floor, couch, and bedding. The place is extremely run down and doesn’t meet basic hygiene standards. It felt more like a poorly maintained hostel than an idyllic Vineyard retreat, and I’ve stayed in many motels much nicer than this. I strongly advise against staying here, as it could ruin your island visit. I checked in at 10pm this evening, and by 10:30 I was writing this review because of how bad the experience had already been, mainly due to the front desk. After checking in and leaving the lobby with my service dog, a golden retriever, I was met with hostility from the desk worker. She appeared to be a Caribbean woman in her 50s with red hair. She rudely scolded me for having a dog, even though she hadn’t recognized my service animal when I arrived. She kept interrupting and speaking down to me, so I couldn’t explain the legal difference between a service animal and a dog. Rather than address my concerns, she shouted, “Honey, that’s a dog, don’t try that with me”. Her conduct was shockingly unprofessional. She also insisted on a $100 fee for the service animal, which I disputed under ADA regulations. I explained what tasks my dog is trained to do, but she dismissed me with a smirk and threatened to charge the card on file after I refused to hand over my card for the fee. With the late hour and my company’s prepayment, I had little recourse. She said, “I’ll add a note you have a dog & you’ll get charged”. Her behavior was childish. I’ll contest any pet fee and report the hotel for lack of ADA compliance. I’m shocked someone with that demeanor is employed there. I also got no pleasantries, information about things to do nearby, directions on where to park, or even the wifi password. The hotel offers a dismal experience that falls short of what I’d expect from a motel. I would strongly recommend against staying here.

The location is great and the restaurant next door is awesome, but we wouldn’t recommend coming back. We stayed one night and left disappointed. Although the room looked tidy, our feet turned black from the dirty carpet, and there were no linens for the pull-out sofa, so I had to ask at the front desk. The desk staff were extremely rude, which was especially disappointing on the first night of our vacation when we’d been looking forward to the stay.

I spent 2 days working around Martha's Vineyard, and this little hotel was convenient, quiet, and comfortable. There’s a restaurant on site and a grocery store right next door. A beautiful place on a beautiful island, and I highly recommend it.
