We left after three nights, even though we'd booked four and knew we wouldn't get a refund. It was our wedding anniversary, and we'd been looking forward to Sheepscot Harbour Village Resort, suite 301, in September 2025. Instead, noise and poor cleanliness made the stay unpleasant. The hollow ceiling carried every footstep from upstairs. At 7:30 pm on the second night, someone vacuumed so loudly we couldn't hear the TV. On the third night there were loud sounds at 10:41 pm, then at 12:46 pm someone dropped something and said a two-word expletive, and there was more noise at 2:53 am. We got no restful sleep. The suite had two leaded-glass frames with broken corners, greasy fingerprints on the microwave front, and lots of fruit flies. The bathroom sink drained poorly and filled with water. Its fan was dusty, sounded about to give out, and didn't clear steam during showers. We called the office as we left Sunday morning but got no call back. After getting home, we called again between 3:00 and 5:00 pm office hours. Sheepscot never got back to us. I doubt our complaint would have been heard anyway.
We didn't hear any problems from the neighbors, and the area felt safe. The location was convenient too: an easy drive to Boothbay Harbor, where parking was easy to find, and staying here saved us a lot compared with being right in town. Route 1 was less noisy than I expected. We had dinner once at the restaurant on site. The poor waitress was working alone between the rooftop bar and restaurant, but the food was okay. We stayed three nights in Suite 214 after booking at the last minute in summer, so I was glad to have a place. We mostly just slept there. If you want somewhere to hang out and relax, I probably wouldn't recommend it. It felt like years since a deep clean: stained carpets and towels, that old hotel smell, a damp bathroom with no fan, and no curtains on the all-glass back patio door.
I accidentally booked the wrong dates, and the reservation couldn't be refunded. I contacted the hotel, and they offered to move the booking or give me a refund. Great customer service.
The sofa cushions sank when my wife sat down, even though these sofas are usually firm, and she ended up with back and neck pain. She isn't heavy. I only raised the sofa issue with Paul, the manager, who was very accommodating and offered to put a board beneath the cushions to firm them up. I blame the owner of room# 212 for neglecting the unit, not Paul. Other things needed attention: the carpet needed serious cleaning and stain removal, the welcome mat and indoor-outdoor carpet by the front door were filthy, and the painted dresser top was badly scuffed. One smoke detector had no battery, and a ceiling sprinkler was missing its cap. The freezer was too small even for a pint of ice cream and needed defrosting. One back window was hard to crank, and the loose screen on the front window could have let in flies and mosquitoes. This was our third visit in four years, but I doubt we'll return.
The views are great and the location is good, but the cabin we rented through the resort was dated, and the windows and doors had issues. After sunset the property is pitch dark. Parking felt questionable, with no rules and cars that looked like they may have been parked and abandoned. You're paying for the location and views, not necessarily the accommodations.
