Beauty Rest Hotel

Everything felt fresh and clean, and the newly renovated room looked great. The front desk was accommodating both when I checked in and when I checked out. I’ll stay here again.

We had three rooms after arriving at 11:30 p.m. following a six-hour drive. Two had ants crawling on the walls and into the bathrooms, and the ice trays were filthy. When I told the desk, I was handed a clear trash bag to deal with the dirty ice bin. I walked the staff to the rooms, and they said there must be food in them. I asked why there would be food if the rooms had been cleaned. At first they said there were no other rooms, then said they could clean two for us if we waited, including the manager’s suite. We were told we’d get new rooms in the morning and a refund. The manager’s suite had an air conditioner that barely worked. By the time we settled in and slept, it was almost 3 a.m. We moved again the next morning and were told we’d be refunded for the two affected rooms. That night, one room’s air conditioner stopped working, so we had to wait for another move. When we checked out, the manager wasn’t there, and we were told to speak with him. I called the next day and was told there would be no refund because we had stayed. I explained what had happened and that we hadn’t received the experience shown on the website. The manager said he wouldn’t do anything, saying people do this to him all the time. I reminded him that we showed him the ants, he personally responded to both air conditioner problems, and he was the one who promised a refund. I tried to be reasonable: we had three rooms, but one had no issue and I wasn’t asking for a refund on that one. For the two problem rooms, I’d accept one night refunded per room instead of a full refund, since we didn’t settle the first night until 3 a.m. and came back the second night to a broken air conditioner. He rudely said we’d stayed when we could have left, so he wouldn’t refund anything. I emailed the motel afterward and received only, “I will look into this.” I never heard back. I waited several weeks to post, hoping I could say the hotel had handled the situation properly, but that didn’t happen. We later found out the hotel rents rooms by the hour and offers extended stays. That could be one reason rooms aren’t cleaned properly before guests arrive. I wouldn’t stay here if you want a peaceful night. There were no other hotel or motel options nearby because of all the events that weekend, otherwise we would have left. The website gives a very different impression from what we experienced.

I only stayed one night, but it was better than I expected. The room was cozy and clean, and the front desk gave me the information I needed and got everything done quickly. It was inexpensive too, and I enjoyed my stay.

The rooms are lovely, and the staff were helpful and nice. There were some extra perks too. Definitely recommend, five stars, mosdef.
