After arriving late, I found the hotel I first tried was full, and most of the places I called were booked too. This one didn’t have a smoking room available at first, but they located one nearby and booked it for me. Check-in when I arrived was smooth, and the room was okay.

Being moved to another room didn’t solve anything. Housekeeping said there had been no complaints about it, but roaches showed up within five minutes. I called the front desk and was told maintenance would come spray by morning, but no one showed up. I notified the authorities. The conditions were far below any reasonable standard of cleanliness or safety. There were live roaches on the walls, human waste and residue left in the toilet from a previous guest, and debris in the sinks, toilet, shower, and refrigerator, where roaches were swarming. Reviews over the past several months also describe an infestation that still hasn’t been addressed. This is a health and safety concern, and the current pest control clearly isn’t working. Having roaches as roommates has nothing to do with the price, Shenna. Shenna, you’re not telling the truth. Look at the bugs crawling on the beds, refrigerators, and shower. I killed the one in the tub for you, since “pest control” is systemically incompetent. The biweekly treatments do nothing, and roaches are everywhere, from the ceiling and bed to the refrigerator. This place is disgusting, inhumane, and dehumanizing. Charging $199-499 for one or two adults to stay here makes no sense. Thanks for acknowledging the issue, though I expect the infestation will still be ignored, as it has been so far, putting guests at risk.

The room I finally got was clean and usable, but the beds were pretty uncomfortable. For a midweek stay at a RedRoof, the price felt far too high, especially given everything else that happened. I’d booked well ahead, then arrived to find I’d been assigned a second-floor smoking room. I’d hauled four bags upstairs before opening the door and realizing it reeked of smoke and was setting off my asthma. I hadn’t even realized smoking rooms were still a thing. The desk said there were no other rooms, and with a local event and my dog, finding another hotel wasn’t realistic. I got upset and asked for the manager, saying I’d hold them responsible if I ended up in the hospital. There’s no elevator, and the property also has semi-permanent residents, which didn’t make me feel safe. The front desk clerk called someone, and I waited over half an hour until the next clerk arrived. Within five minutes, they suddenly found a room on the first floor. I still don’t know why that was so hard. At 11 pm, I was done with the whole thing. “You get what you pay for” definitely didn’t fit here.

I won’t stay at any Red Roof Inn again. I wish I’d Googled this location first and seen the recent reports of criminal activity. There were drug deals going on through the night. Around 4:30 am, I heard screaming and pounding a couple of rooms away. When I left about an hour later, there was a police crime scene van, drug-sniffing K-9s, about six police cars, and 10 officers outside the room where the people I’d had trouble with the previous night were staying. Even before that, the place felt like it was mostly residents sitting outside with music blasting on a weeknight. One person let a husky roam without a leash and refused to leash it when I asked, even though I had two dogs with me. The front desk said they were sold out and couldn’t switch my room. The sheets were old, pilled, and awful to sleep on, and there were bugs in the room. I still don’t know if they were bed bugs.
