Motel 6 Effingham, IL

The location was great, and we could walk to dinner, a gas station, and breakfast. The room was spacious but almost empty, and the place had plenty of unused space and potential if it were in the right hands. We checked in late, so it wasn’t until morning that we saw how dirty things were. The tub was gross, with hair on the sink, shower curtain, and tub. There was something nasty on the floor by both nightstands, and what looked like animal poop in front of the TV stand. When I looked at the housekeeping cart, it didn't have a single wet mop. They should get mops for the floors, offer pastries with the coffee, and train the housekeepers better. During the bed inspection, I found a lot of hair on the brown blanket. I know duvet covers don't get washed regularly, but blankets and sheets should. I work in hospitality, so I was understanding and just asked for clean bedding. The mattress pad was disgusting too, with only the sheet between us and the mattress protector.

We sleep like rocks here after a long day of driving. The bed is super comfortable, the heater works fine, and the room had a nice fridge, good TV, and a clean room with a hot shower. There's a large parking area for an RV or truck, and our little dog stayed with us at no extra charge. It's not the prettiest place, but it's a good-value spot to rest on our trips to Texas.

For a Motel 6, it was pretty good, and cleaner than most. The room had an apartment-size fridge and freezer combo, with plenty of gas stations and some food nearby. The non-smoking room still smelled strongly of cigarettes. The door had to be slammed shut to latch, and the property isn't ADA compliant.

I was impressed by the Spanish style showers. The rooms were clean, nicely set up, and great. The TV was large and cable came with it. No bed bugs.
