Rodeway Inn El Cajon - San Diego East

It was clean, peaceful, and quiet, and I felt safe. There's good lighting in the parking lot at night and plenty of parking. The motel is pet-friendly and in the middle of everything, so you can walk to McDonald's and shops without a car, and buses aren't far away. It has nice TV channels, too. A decent place for the price.

My apartment is being renovated, so the property manager moved my roommate and me from a two-bedroom place into one room with a single bed for the 10-week project. If the manager thinks this property is good enough, that says a lot. The rooms online look nothing like what you get: the fridge is dorm-sized, and the kitchen is just a hot plate and microwave. The fridge was dirty and leaking, the floors seemed never to have been mopped until I did it, and the toilet seat was broken. The AC works but is missing parts. Though the room was meant to be non-smoking, guests next door smoked marijuana and the smell came into our room. This place is a slumlord's property.

We were worn out from the trip, and the friendly check-in staff immediately helped us feel comfortable. A really good first impression.

We didn't even last 15 minutes before leaving. A cockroach was on the wall, dead roaches were on the floor, the walls had holes, and the furniture was stained. The metal bed frame was exposed and sticking out, and it hurt my six-year-old as she walked past. It was disgusting and appalling. The hotel wouldn't accommodate us or refund us, and the photos online were nothing like what we found when we arrived. I wouldn't recommend anyone stay here.
