Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Lima, OH

I was there for two nights and had one problem after another. The pool was closed for renovations, which I only found out Saturday morning as I was leaving for a wrestling tournament. Later, I tried to nap after the tournament, but the fire alarm kept going off for no reason. That night the hot water had been shut off, so stepping into the shower was a nasty shock. I called the front desk and they said the water had been turned off. Nobody had called the room to let me know. My first night I arrived late, went straight to bed, showered, and left right away.

The pillows were comfortable, but they’re tiny square throw pillows, not the kind I’d pick myself. The room was quiet and comfortable, and the staff were excellent. You can tell they’re renovating, but for the price it’s a good deal. I’d stay again.

The front desk guy was really nice, but the hotel itself was gross. Stains everywhere on the carpet, including around 40-60 in my room. The furniture looks like it’s from the 90s, and there were thumbtacks all over the walls, even one in the ceiling.

I’ve used Choice Hotels for years when I travel, so I thought I knew what to expect. I usually book Comfort Inn or Quality Inn, but this Country Inn and Suites was what was available nearby, and I figured it would be fine. It was disgusting. There was moldy food in the microwave, red splatter on the wall and door, and something red, maybe blood, in the inner door crack. The floors were stained, full of crumbs and spills, and clearly hadn’t been vacuumed or properly cleaned in a long time. The pool smelled mildewy, and the hot tub didn’t work. I also didn’t feel the surrounding area was safe. There was a local park about five minutes away that was fenced and felt safe enough for a quick play. When I told the staff about the room, they didn’t seem to care about cleanliness and just said, “yeah?” I wouldn’t recommend it.
