The worst part happened around 3:30 a.m. on my first night. Two people were fighting in the hallway by my room and the elevator. It went from shouting to a single gunshot. As far as I know, nobody was hurt, and the police came and handled it, but it was frightening and stressful. I couldn’t get back to sleep. I know something like this may be outside the hotel’s direct control and could reflect a wider issue, but steps such as requiring key cards for elevator access to guest floors might help prevent it. If they were guests, I hope the hotel enforced its policy, removed them, and reported them to the authorities. The on-duty General Manager, Julianna Myers, spoke with me. She was professional, offered help, apologized deeply, and reassured me that it was safe again. There was no refund or move to another IHG property. I wouldn’t call this a pleasant or secure stay, and I’m not interested in returning. The hotel is new and looks modern, but my experience wasn’t good. The front desk employee at check-in wasn’t rude, just extremely indifferent and unwelcoming. Other staff were friendlier. The room didn’t look dirty at first, but I found long hairs on the floor that weren’t mine. The floor also had an unpleasant color and smell, like it had been mopped with dirty water or a dirty mop. I did see several staff members doing thorough deep cleaning in the halls, on the walls, and in the elevators. The room was smaller than average for the city, though fine for one or two nights with no more than two people. The bed was very clean and exceptionally comfortable.
