Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Elizabeth City

We stayed for about a week while looking for a rental, and everyone made that stretch easy. The desk staff kept adding nights as our plans changed and found us the best rate available. Housekeeping was kind and brought whatever we needed, including towels and toilet paper. Breakfast was a bright spot too: the team was always friendly, made waffles for us at the station, and let us know when they were ready. They had gluten free bagels and blueberry muffins, which meant a lot to my wife, who is gluten-free and often has trouble finding hotels that can accommodate her. We'd consider staying here again when we're back in Elizabeth City.

We've been Marriott members since the 90s, and haven't had travel problems like this before. During our college trip to take my son off to his freshman year, the charges on my cards were made multiple times for more than they should have been. I raised it with staff and management, but nothing was done, so I contacted the card company. They canceled all the cards while we were still traveling. Neither the corporate office nor the hotel manager tried to contact me, and in the end they disputed the charges, leaving me out money. There's much more to the story than I can fit here, but the way they handled it was unacceptable. I'd suggest staying somewhere else. I hope this helps someone.

After driving eight hours to NC for a funeral, we had a terrible start at another hotel. At 2am we called Fairfield to ask about a room. They said there was nothing available and check-in wasn't until 3pm, but when I explained our situation, they told us to come at 10am and said they'd make sure a room was ready for my family. The difference was huge. The room was clean, the workers were amazing, and breakfast was good. Getting settled here took a load off our family while we were dealing with a death and a long drive. I'm grateful they worked to get us a room quickly, and to the cleaning ladies who work so hard to keep the place super clean. Thank you 😊

The room was nice and clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The bed wasn't made during every other day's refresh, though. Breakfast was a mixed bag. The woman working it was helpful, but came across as almost militant, which felt jarring first thing in the morning. I've never had another Marriot where guests couldn't operate the waffle machine themselves, and her reaction made it seem like I should have known that was the rule. If that's a local thing, they should put up a sign.
