La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Elizabethtown

The parking area was barely plowed, and there were few guests because of the weather. The staff weren’t friendly, and the front desk said only one person was working on the property. They had no sheets for the couch, which was too small for a normal sized adult, and wouldn’t bring any to our second-floor room for my 81-year-old mother. We had to switch rooms because the TV didn’t work, the walls were paper thin, and we had to fix the toilet ourselves when it wouldn’t flush. The automatic front door was out of order and had to be pulled open, and the pool wasn’t open. This is nowhere near a three-star hotel, and we won’t stay here or at any LaQuinta again. The guest checking out ahead of us mentioned similar problems, and I reported everything to corporate.

The room was modern, clean, and well designed, with a really comfortable bed. Breakfast had scrambled eggs, biscuits, and sausage gravy, which I couldn’t eat as a vegetarian. There was also a decent selection of sweet rolls, yogurt, cereal, and juices. I wish they’d had instant oatmeal, since that would’ve been easy to provide. This was my first La Quinta stay, and I’ll definitely come back when I’m traveling through Ky.

We only needed a room for one night on short notice two weeks ago. The woman at the desk was pleasant, as was the woman there the next morning. We had our service dog and felt safe traveling with our daughter. The room was clean, though the dresser was damaged, and that wasn’t caused by my dog. There’s limited parking unless you leave the car behind the hotel and walk all the way around. It smelled when we first entered, but I’d tried three other places nearby and they were worse. The bed wasn’t comfortable, but it worked for the night.

For a one-night stop, this worked well. It was clean and pet friendly, which is what mattered to me, and it looks like they may have recently put in new carpet. There was a faint musty smell at first, but turning on the A/C cleared it quickly. The TV settings needed changing, and the front desk had the remote for that. I thought they might offer to bring it up, but they didn’t, so service gets four stars.
