My wife and I drove 400 miles after a 10-hour workday, but the owner wouldn't rent us a room. I had called a week earlier to reserve room 106 for May 21st and said we'd arrive late, around 2 to 3 in the morning. The gentleman took my name and confirmed it. We got there at 3:30 this morning, and I'm assuming the owner accused me of painting on the wall and said the room was rented. When I asked for a different room, he said he had none. There's a mural behind the mirror in room 106 that we wanted to see, painted by an artist who goes by Roomattack on instagram. My advice to the owner or manager: if you don't want to rent that room to someone who knows about the mural, don't accept the reservation. Just say it's unavailable. The artist painted 30 murals in motel rooms on route 66, and only 5 have been found. With this being the 100 year anniversary of route 66, a lot of people are interested in route 66 history.

The owners were warm and welcoming, and we had a nice conversation about some interests we share. It was a welcome change from the sterile feel of chain hotels. I stayed at the Flamingo Motel during a cross-country trip, and it was worth the drive into town. The room was clean and had everything you'd expect from a chain, plus more: a comfortable bed and linens, big TV with WiFi, refrigerator, microwave, hair dryer, Kleenex, toiletries, iron and ironing board (Yeay!), and coffee maker. The bathroom tilework was lovely, and I appreciated the grab bars by the toilet and in the tub area. It was the lowest price of our trip and beat the points I might have earned elsewhere. If you have time, Elk City is a beautiful, historic, vibrant town. I was eager to get back on the road, but had to stop and leave this review. Stay at the Flamingo!

A clean, quiet, no-frills retro motel at a very reasonable price. The bed was fine, Direct TV worked well, and there was an ice machine nearby. The manager was courteous and helpful. We'd stay here again.

Great value for the price. The staff were amazing, and we really enjoyed our stay in a comfortable room. It is a small-town hotel, so the room is a little outdated.

We arrived at midnight and got a friendly welcome. After we'd already paid, they offered us a free room upgrade. The motel was clean, the shower was decent, and there were no bedbugs.
