The worst part started before dawn. Someone in the next room made a racket while packing from 3:15 to 3:45 AM, then at 4:30 the desk let four young people move into that room. They kept partying, laughing, talking loudly, banging the wall, slamming the door, and stomping around the hall. With walls this thin and doors that only shut with a bang, nearby guests had no chance of sleeping. The front desk should have known that. I’d already been traveling across the country for 11 weeks, and this was the worst motel stay I’ve ever had. The bed was old and painfully hard, and I woke up sore. There was no hot water, and the weak AC barely cooled even a small room. You had to go down to the front desk to request ice. Breakfast was a few muffins, bagels, juice, coffee, and napkins. I wouldn’t return to the Days Inn in Elkins, WV, even for a lot of money. A terrible experience, to put it mildly.

The WiFi was unusably slow, and a double queen room had neither a fridge nor a microwave. The AC had no in-room temperature controls, and I couldn’t tell how it was adjusted. Noise carried from other rooms, especially doors shutting. This used to be Memorial General hospital, and the converted patient rooms are tiny. There’s only a basic walk-in shower, no tub. Even with all that, the rate was over $100 a night. If you can avoid staying here, do, you won’t be happy.

The rooms were smelly, with old decor and outdated fixtures. After bed bugs were found in the bed, Assist Man refused to talk with my family. The owner also refused to contact the corporate office or the BBB to work this out. Zero stars. The nearby HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS was much better.
