Great Basin Inn

Don’t stay here unless it’s your last option. We arrived late and were too exhausted to do anything but go to bed. The beds creaked with every movement, and one had dirt or something on it. There was also a hair on the back of a pillow. One outlet by the bed had no cover, and another looked fine until sparks flew when we plugged in a phone charger. In the morning, we were horrified by the used washcloths left in the shower, hair and soap in the tub, and no hand soap. The walls and bathroom floor were filthy. The coffee maker was gross, and they hadn’t restocked the cups or coffee. There were huge gaps under the door, and the AC filters were visibly packed with dirt and dust. Only the toilet and sink were clean.

Absolutely disgusting. The shower looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months, and empty shampoo bottles from the last person were still inside. The walls were coated in sticky brown grime, and the room reeked of cigarettes. A bunch of dogs were let loose in the parking lot, barking loudly for hours starting at 6 a.m., so I couldn’t sleep. The inside of the fridge was sticky and filthy too. Nothing was good about this place. I felt completely disgusted sleeping there.

My wife and I were stuck after our car broke down during a road trip, and the owner and her son were amazing, genuinely kind people. She gave us a great deal and all the information we needed. After I found my tool case smashed, she even gave me one of her late husband’s cigar boxes for my small tools.

It’s a dive hotel, but the location is great, the owner is super friendly, and the bed was really comfortable. The flooring is new. WiFi wasn’t good, and the price feels high for what you get in this area. There’s a laid-back neighborhood vibe, with a bar and grill across the street and a mini market on site. If I’m passing through and need somewhere to sleep, I’ll probably stay here again.
