Best Western Emporia Inn

When we pulled the curtains closed that evening, we found dark black, blotchy stains on the back of them that looked like mold. I was shocked and would have shared pictures if I could. The manager denied it was mold and said the sun had caused the marks. I don’t buy that explanation. We weren’t offered another room or a refund, just some “points” for the Best Western rewards program. No thanks, I won’t be back. The place was dirty and smelled awful, and seemed badly run. I consider it a health concern for guests.

We had a good breakfast and coffee the next morning, with plenty of hot and cold choices. The room was clean, and the remodeled bathroom was really nice. I loved the walk-in shower. Thanks for making our wedding night comfortable, and for accommodating us.

I passed on the breakfast because after seeing the room they considered “clean,” I didn’t trust the kitchen. The hotel was old, dirty, and almost everything seemed broken. They had awful plug-in air fresheners trying to cover the smell. I was traveling alone, but if my wife had been with me, we would’ve turned around as soon as we saw the place. I probably should’ve left anyway, but didn’t want the hassle of getting a refund or repacking everything. I checked nearby alternatives, and they were only $10-20 more per night, so choose one of those if you’re heading this way. You can do better. My photos don’t come close to showing how bad it was.

We had a quiet night since the hotel sits off the main highway. The bed was comfortable, and the room was okay, though it smelled a bit musty.
