Homewood Suites by Hilton Erie

The suite was well furnished and just right for what I needed. The furniture was comfortable and in good shape, and the bed was super comfortable, which matters because I’m picky about beds. The staff were terrific, friendly and professional. I travel through Erie a couple of times a year, and I was surprised how nice this Homewood by Hilton was for the price. I’ll stay here again.

Our room was cozy and clean, and the shower pressure was perfect. Breakfast was delicious, with lots to choose from, including healthy options. Check-out was quick, and the guy at the desk was super cool. The woman who welcomed us at check-in was pleasant and got us through quickly. She explained breakfast and check-out times, showed us where to get evening coffee or tea, and shared the pool schedule. We truly appreciated the whole staff, especially after some bad hotel stays in the past. God bless them all.

Two nights after the first disturbance, I was woken at midnight by the same metal banging. I went down to check out and find another hotel, but the night auditor did a great job getting me into a room down the hall, on the same floor and well away from the damage. I usually stay here first when I come to Erie and have always had a good experience, but this time a piece of roof trim above my room was banging loudly in the wind. It woke me at 4 a.m. The metal was several feet long and could hurt someone or damage a car if it fell. When I reported it, the night staff said they were only doing the audit and couldn’t help, but gave me an email address to send photos and a complaint. I sent them and got no response. Later that day, staff said maintenance knew about it, it wouldn’t be an issue anymore, and I didn’t need to move rooms. I understand the hotel might have been full the first night, but I’d rather they’d been honest so I could decide whether to change rooms the next day or go elsewhere. The piece still looked damaged when I checked out four days later and didn’t seem secured. I also reported it to Millcreek Code Enforcement.

The room smelled stale, the furniture was dirty and falling apart, and I think only one elevator was working. The pool heater was broken, which left my child angry and disappointed. We’d stayed here once before and it was great, so I don’t know what changed. Sorry we chose it this time. We won’t be back, and I’ll contact the hotel.
