I’d stayed here before without a problem. It was basic but clean and comfortable. This time, after a long weekend in Albuquerque, I needed somewhere safe for two women overnight, and the stay was awful. They charged an extra $15 because they said they charge by the person, not the bed, even though they gave us only one key. In the first room, I pulled back the sheets and found what looked like poop stains. I asked the desk to have someone change them, and they moved us instead. The next room had cigarette burns on the blankets and no deadbolt. When I returned the key, I mentioned the issue. The person at the desk, who I assume was the owner, got angry and said I didn’t deserve a new room. He threatened to refund me and kick us out at 10 pm because no one was available to clean the room then and I was being unreasonable. He moved us one more time, to the second floor, and we quickly fell asleep so we could get out of there.
The manager’s rudeness and arrogance were baffling. I stayed there a couple of times, and he was borderline obnoxious each time, so it wasn’t a one-off. The property is usually about 70% empty, around 70% of the time. I offered $375 a week for a five-day-a-week stay for a whole month, or $1,500 monthly. I kept asking for nearly a month, but the manager consistently rebuffed the offer and wouldn’t budge.
We’d driven nine hours from Colorado and decided to put up with the mold and scorch marks on the wall, which looked like damage from an electrical fire, until morning. The front desk attendant, perhaps the manager, said he’d have someone clean it the next day. When we asked for another room, he said the hotel was full, although the website still showed rooms available. As we were getting ready for bed, the door opened without warning and the same man walked in. My husband yelled at him, and he said he thought we were out. He was rude. We called corporate, and while we were still on the phone he called us and told us to come to the front desk. We were still on hold when we got there. He asked why we’d complained, then kicked us out before we could answer. He followed us into the room and watched us pack and leave. The front desk area smelled like urine, and the rooms were so dirty I didn’t want to sit on the bed, let alone sleep there. The man at the desk was angry and rude. We’ll never stay at this Motel 6 again. What a hell hole.
The man was rude, though happy enough to take your money. The room was cold and just okay. When I asked for another blanket, he made a big deal of asking why I needed one. He finally handed one over, and it was covered in cigarette burns. Yuck. I regret staying here. There are much better places in Espanola. No AI response needed.
The rooms were clean, the place felt safe, and I appreciated the service. My insurance, Presbyterian, paid for the room because my wife and I were on a business trip. I also appreciated that they’re dog-friendly and that there’s plenty of outdoor space for dogs to walk and run. There’s an emergency exit, but otherwise only one way in and out. I apologize to the staff for misinterpreting things at check-in, and thank them for their service.
