My room felt warm and inviting, and I slept really well. Everything was spotless, with charm everywhere, and I loved being able to turn on the fireplace in the morning. I also enjoyed a quiet coffee in the lovely piano room before breakfast at the Ambrose Restaurant. The decor and all the little touches of grandeur made the place feel special. Sir Stanley and Jaime were amazing, and the Inn itself is beautiful. I’d highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Exteter.

We paid over 700 for a suite, and the decor was drab and not well done. The place was way overpriced, the service was horrible, and it felt very unaccommodating. After we unpacked, I asked for a glass of wine but had to wait for the innkeeper to finish a meeting. The same person checked me in, prepared meals, brought in my luggage, and eventually brought the wine. It was a totally weird experience, and not what I expected for that price. Disappointed. I’d find another place to stay.

The Ambrose was wonderful, and we were really impressed with the cocktails. It’s described as tapas-style, but each dish was a good-sized portion. The inn itself is a historic place that’s been beautifully refurbished, cozy and comfortable, with exceptional service. It’s also just a two-minute walk from the Exeter campus. One of the most pleasant stays we’ve had anywhere. Thank you!

We stayed in the Adams Suite. It was immaculately cleaned each day, which we appreciated, though the decor was more than I like, with vintage pieces ranging from American Victorian to Asian styles. The main letdown was finding the restaurant closed during our stay. When I booked, I asked specifically whether breakfast was included. I was told it wasn’t, but that the in-house restaurant could make breakfast as well as dinner. No one gave us directions to another restaurant in this tiny town, so we went to the Noodle house across the way. We paid full price without compensation for the inconvenience. I wouldn’t have stayed had I known the restaurant wouldn’t be available. Service would have been three stars if Marcia hadn’t been so gracious about doing a load of laundry for my husband when he asked where to find a laundromat. She folded his clothes neatly and left them in our room. Thank you, Marcia.

We stayed in the Phillips Suite for three nights while in the area for a family wedding, and the Inn was beautiful and well appointed. Jaime’s attention to detail made the experience feel flawless. Our room was spacious, spotless, comfortable, and had lots of extras. I can’t recommend the restaurant enough, especially breakfast. Don’t skip the mimosas. You won’t be disappointed.
