Days Inn Griffin

It's an older motel that's been remodeled several times, but it's still a nice, well-kept place for its age. My wife and I were in town for a family reunion, and it suited us perfectly. We just needed a bed for the night and a convenient location. The rooms were clean, and the staff were friendly in a down-home way. Nothing fancy, but we'd recommend it and would stay again.

When I checked in at 8:45 PM, I waited in a secured area behind ballistic glass and eventually had to call the hotel on my cell before a clerk came to the window. The area didn't seem very nice, either. The supposed smoke-free room had three ashtrays and smelled of smoke. The pillows were flat as pancakes, the bed sagged, the bathroom floor grout was black, and the wall paint was clearly worn off. I'd have gone somewhere else if I hadn't already driven ten hours. I have to wonder if the positive reviews are fake.

The bed was pretty comfortable, but I wouldn't recommend the place. Their website says it's pet friendly, while the lobby says pets aren't allowed in rooms. We chose it for that reason and brought our dogs anyway; nobody said anything, so I still don't know if pets are really allowed. The flashing outdoor lights looked spooky at night, and the vending machine gave us very sticky sodas. On our last night, the front desk lady woke us with repeated knocks because we'd been put in the wrong room. She kept knocking after we asked for a minute while my husband put on pants. At least she didn't make us change rooms at 9 at night. If you just need somewhere cheap and don't mind a slightly scary feel, you could book it.

My dad said the room was the worst he'd ever stayed in, with roaches and bed bugs, and they overcharged him. The front desk woman was rude, disrespectful, and racist, with no customer service skills. When I asked for my dad, she hung up on me. I called back and explained there was an emergency, but she cursed at me and told me to call 911. All she had to do was say she couldn't give out room information, and I would've understood.
