We got to see a ribbon of green lights dancing right outside the hostel, which was what I’d hoped for on this trip. My teenage daughter and I stayed one night and both loved it. Billie was kind and welcoming, and the house felt cozy, full of history and memories. There’s also a lovely cafe less than five minutes away.

Creamer’s Field is close enough to walk to, and we saw Sandhill Cranes in the park. The farmers market is nearby too. Billie, her family, and friends were lovely, and Joe kept me company with a long chat while our laundry was going. The place itself is wonderfully quirky, with old fashioned furniture and decorations from around the world. A Fairbanks classic.

The dorms and bathrooms were clean, and the kitchen had the utensils and spices I needed to cook. Billie and Art made the place feel like home, and they were helpful with my questions even before I arrived. I spent four nights at Billie’s Hostel and had an amazing time. Bus stops nearby made it easy to reach downtown, the university, and the airport.

As my first hostel stay, this was a great experience. The owner was really sweet, and the place felt comfortable and homey. I could walk to a lot of places nearby too, which was a nice bonus. Definitely recommend it.

I felt safe here as a solo traveler, and the house was locked to keep out people who weren’t staying at the hostel. Free bikes came with helmets and locks, which helped me get around when I didn’t want to use the bus, since it doesn’t run seven days a week. There’s a bus stop nearby, and I stayed for a week in October. The common room was a nice spot to cook and meet other travelers. The kitchen usually had basics like rice, oats, baking supplies, spices, pots and pans, plus a free pile left by previous guests. Just be ready for a bed in the hallway, which is where mine was.
