Jill and Scott made this one of the best vacations we’ve had. We spent six wonderful nights and days here, and I’d recommend the place to anyone visiting Fairbanks. Breakfast was a chance to hear about Fairbanks history and get their suggestions for activities and dinner spots. I also loved learning about the house and looking at its black-and-white photos from more than 100 years ago. Thanks for such a memorable stay!

The biggest question for me is who owns and works at this house. Check whether things are still like they were in summer 2023. If they are, it’s a great deal, and we’d return if Margo were there. She was the reason for my five stars: an employee, not the owner, who cooked wonderful breakfasts, gave us all the information we needed, offered rides, and even went to the store for particular breakfast dishes. She went well beyond her job, though she’s the owner’s friend and may not be back next summer. With a shortage of skilled workers in Fairbanks, I worry service could slip. The rooms aren’t cleaned every day, and freshly cooked breakfasts may not continue either. The house itself is historic and almost museum-like, with antiques in every room and plenty to learn about Fairbanks and Alaska as you wander. The decor and bathrooms are old, as they’re meant to be, and the heating system is excellent. There’s no TV, which makes sense in a house built in 1916. The kitchen is part of the shared space, unusual for a B&B because nobody lives here. It’s stocked with snacks, drinks, and supplies, and our room also had special treats and a working private kitchen. The piano hasn’t been tuned since the Raegan administration. Downtown Fairbanks is a two-minute walk away. Parking wasn’t a problem in September, though it might be if the place is full in summer. It’s a little overpriced, but worth it when the service is at the right level. We loved the house, exploring the mostly empty rooms, and eating Margo’s food.

Jill was a great host, and the breakfasts she made were delicious. We had a wonderful time in this heritage house, with its original construction and decor carefully preserved through renovation. Our room suited us well, though the bed might feel too small if you’re tall or big.

Jill and Scott were so helpful, and Jill’s breakfast was delicious. The Heritage House was clean and beautiful. If you want to be near downtown Fairbanks and prefer a home-like stay to a hotel, I’d definitely recommend it.

Our host Margot and the Heritage house were highlights of our three-week trip around Alaska. The place is quirky, ornate, unique, and beautiful, and we still talk about both Margot and the house. We’d go back to Fairbanks just to stay there again.
