Rivers Edge Resort

The cottage was one star at best, and for the peak-season price I expected more. The smoke detector didn’t work, the towels were tiny, the door had gaps and wouldn’t seal, and there were cobwebs in every ceiling corner and on the fan. I wouldn’t stay again. The restaurant was overpriced. A small river cost $54, though it was worth $30 at most. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you can’t get downtown or need to use Lyft or other transport, since there aren’t good walking options.

The cottages were cute, and we liked the choices at both gift shops on site. The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff were wonderful. There are lots of amenities within walking distance, and the shuttle to the train and airport was so convenient. Tye, the manager, was friendly and knowledgeable. Constantine was our favorite server at Chenas. We’ll definitely return.

From arrival through checkout, our stay as an NCL cruise add-on was unacceptable. The room had a foul odor that never went away. When I told the front desk, they offered a bottle of Febreze, but no other room, saying the hotel was full. Our tour guide even asked for housekeeping to come the next day while we were out. When we returned, the room clearly hadn’t been cleaned. The front desk admitted there had been problems with the cleaning staff, but no one was available to help and they offered nothing else. I asked how to formally escalate the complaint and was told there was no contact information. We had no option beyond the spray. Opening the windows only let mosquitoes in, so we had to sleep with the smell. This was a failure of basic cleanliness, responsiveness, and accountability, not a small inconvenience. Staff said they couldn’t do anything while acknowledging known housekeeping issues. If the hotel can’t provide clean rooms or meaningful solutions, it shouldn’t be on an NCL itinerary. I urge NCL to reconsider its relationship with River’s Edge Resort and the property to address housekeeping and customer service right away. The stay fell far short and cast a shadow over an otherwise special Alaska trip. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel until the issues are clearly resolved.

The cottage setup was a nice change from a regular hotel, and the accommodations were modest but comfortable. We could walk to a grocery store and a coffee and bagel shop, and there’s a nice RV park next door. We didn’t eat on the property, though they have a breakfast buffet and a restaurant open for dinner. Service was excellent. The shuttle was waiting at the train station and available when we needed rides to the riverboat and airport. They also kept our luggage while we waited for an evening flight.
