Clevedale Historic Inn and Gardens

A wraparound balcony and several peaceful places to sit made it easy to unwind, and with just a few rooms the place felt like a private oasis. The Abernathy’s were so warm and personable, too. We came for our first anniversary and ended up calling it one of the five best stays we’ve had anywhere. The room was comfortable, clean, and full of lovely details. I especially liked the high bed and clawfoot tub. Breakfast was phenomenal, and you could tell Ms. Pontheolla put care into every meal. We’ll definitely return.

Ponthy’s breakfasts are phenomenal, and her cooking will keep you going all day. Paul and Ponthy were wonderful hosts, with so much care put into the small details. Clevedale Historic Inn and Gardens is beautiful, and I can’t recommend it enough.

That feeling of peace here makes you breathe deeper and forget to check your phone. I even caught myself wondering if I could move in. The room was cozy, spotless, and had thoughtful touches everywhere, plus it smelled better than my favorite candle. The people were some of the kindest in South Carolina, welcoming me like family from the moment I arrived. Breakfast was so good I almost asked for the recipe and the cook’s friendship. The charm, comfort, and hospitality are hard to beat. Leaving was the tough part.

We spent the extended Thanksgiving weekend at Clevedale and had a wonderful time. The house and grounds are gorgeous, and our room was beautifully furnished. Breakfasts were delicious and inventive: jam-stuffed pancakes one morning, a Thanksgiving-style frittata another, and shrimp and grits in the photo. Our hosts gave us a warm welcome and made sure we had a great stay with their genuine hospitality.
