First Western Inn

My boss suggested this place because of where it is. At check-in, I showed the ID card for my registered service animal and there wasn’t a problem at first. Then they changed their position and wouldn’t follow the Americans with Disabilities Act. I told them that was discrimination and against the law, but they didn’t seem to understand or speak English clearly. I wouldn’t recommend a place that treats an ex-U.S. military person who fought for the freedom they take for granted this way.

At 5 a.m. on our first morning, someone was walking around the parking lot shouting. The carpet was sticky, too. We’d booked a room with a hot tub, but it was broken, with what looked like vinyl tape holding its side up. Flies got into the room, which made for an entertaining night while the TV stayed stuck on Nickelodeon because the remote wouldn’t control it. The first night, the woman at the counter made me feel like I’d let my family down just for asking for an extra key card. I also had to return to the office each night to have the card recoded. The man at the counter, though, was very pleasant.

We got a great night’s sleep in a comfy, clean bed, and the room had a ceiling fan and overhead lights. We arrived around 11:30 p.m., so that was all we really needed. The bathroom sink drained poorly, and the vanity had plenty of cracks and burn marks, but the room itself was fine. The reception area smelled unpleasant. The front desk clerk had been asleep, which was okay since he came right out when I rang the bell. He barely spoke and wasn’t welcoming or polite. I’d booked through booking.com, and it was nice that he didn’t ask for a deposit.

The room was quiet, with a comfortable bed, and I had no problems during my stay. It was clean, too. I’d booked a room with a hot tub, but when I arrived they told me it was broken. Had I known, I would’ve stayed somewhere else. He did give me some money back on the room. The area felt very sketchy.
