Residence Inn by Marriott Detroit Farmington Hills

The room was clean, functional, and comfortable, and the staff were friendly. I liked the real fridge with an ice maker, the good AC controls, and the TV on a swivel base so I could watch from the bed or couch. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower was nice, though I wish its head angled down more. The kitchenette was great even though I barely used it, and the large desk held all my electronics and paperwork. A+, highly recommend. I’ll stay there again.

The coffee was surprisingly good, but that won’t bring me back. My colleagues and I had explicitly said we didn’t want housekeeping, yet they entered the room anyway. I also find it annoying that you need a room key just to turn on the lights. Marriott didn’t award me points for a stay booked through our company portal, though my colleague got points when we used the same portal. I won’t recommend this location to my company. The front desk was friendly, but the room was a letdown. The bed was covered in hair and stains, so I asked the assistant manager for a different duvet. It wasn’t folded properly, and later I saw coffee stains on it that weren’t mine. The next day I asked, presumably the manager, for fresh sheets, and those appeared clean. I hadn’t slept well the first night, and didn’t inspect much more because I needed to make the most of the rest of my stay. Right from the start, I didn’t trust that anything had been cleaned.

The bed was very comfortable, and the staff were welcoming. I liked the room’s layout and design, and having a kitchen was nice. One mug hadn’t been washed, and some cutlery had water spots, but I’m not very picky and expected I might have to rinse or wash things before using them since they’re for public use. I’d stay again next time I’m in the area.

The staff listened to our concerns, and I hope they passed them on to someone who can fix things for the next guest. The room didn’t seem very clean, with spots on the chairs and floor that looked burnt or stained. And from the moment we opened the door until we left, there was an odd smell we couldn’t identify.
