Homewood Suites by Hilton Hartford-Farmington

The pool was great, but a basketball team of about 25 kids came in jumping and doing cannonballs. The pool emptied out, since other guests couldn’t swim with them there, and I was getting splashed every five seconds. I’m no Karen, but it was rather rude. A housekeeper working in the hallway by room 117 was lovely, though. She was so sweet and made the stay more tolerable with a three-minute conversation. The bigger problem started when we got to room 117. Flushing the toilet caused it to overflow across the bathroom and onto the bedroom carpet. I politely asked Antoinette, I believe, if we could switch rooms so we wouldn’t have to sleep with raw sewage. She rudely said, “well I have housekeeping so no.” We ended up sleeping with sewage-soaked carpet and the smell. No apology or offer to move us. She seemed not to care at all. Stay away if you don’t want a rude front desk woman or to sleep in raw sewage. We’re contacting the health department unless we can get a refund. The pillows were gross, too. At check-in around 1pm on 3/7/26, the front desk agent wasn’t very personable and was dismissive, though I appreciated that she let me check in early. Later, I asked where to get ice. There are no ice machines. She said nothing and pointed toward a fridge I couldn’t see behind the desk. Even after I walked over and asked again, she just pointed at the ice, which was in a zip-lock bag behind boxes in the fridge. She watched me struggle to find it instead of just explaining where it was. Weird flex, but okay lady.

The rooms were clean, and the staff were friendly. The building is a little older and could use a deep clean. The kitchenettes were missing a few handy things, including a pan. Otherwise, it had what I’d expect from a Hilton property.

I’ve stayed here a few times over the last two and a half years, and very little has changed. The place needs some tender love and care. The rooms have plenty of space, but everything is old and needs maintenance. Last week I had a lot of trouble with the bathtub. I reported it around five times, but nothing changed. From my perspective, they didn’t even try to fix it. The front desk staff were kind, but a couple of them couldn’t help me get things like dish soap or lotion. I also asked for a frying pan and a pot from the first night, after finding no kitchenware. Being able to cook is mainly why I choose Homewood chains. I stayed three weeks, plenty of time to get those items, but they never came. Housekeeping wasn’t great either. After they serviced my room, I found my clean clothes lying on the dirty carpet. Not pleasant at all. I’d like to see them take better care of the property, but until then I’m not coming back.

The whole team helped make our stay pleasant, and I’m grateful. The manager was very helpful and went above and beyond by extending our checkout time as a goodwill gesture. The young woman who handled our late check-in at 3:00 AM on Saturday did a fantastic job getting everything right, especially since she was probably still in training. I was thoroughly impressed with the service from the front desk attendants at The Homewood Suites in Farmington, CT. I wish I’d gotten their names so I could mention them.
